out of time! January 30, 2008

Man! I hate over sleeping because it’s like everything is rushed.  Mainly my outfit! It’s like when you over sleep you don’t have the time to linger and really think abut what you are going to wear you have to just pick something cause there really is no time!  One of my favorite magazines Lucky has a section where it will ask different women what is there “fool proof outfit” I take this as there one outfit no matter what they can always depend on.  I love the idea!  This morning I find myself wearing my beige pants that have a texture of silk in them and the flare a lil’ at the bottom- theremeant to be loose not tight- from jcrew, with my favorite silk shirt, and elephant earrings and some gold shoes… I really love the look! Oh and of course my Louis! I love the look and I think it has potential of being my “fool proof outfit”  Okay so do you have a “fool proof outfit” if so what is it??? out of time must go to work- lol!

guilty January 29, 2008

So your getting dress and you realize that your dress is a lil’ to low than you’d prefer.  Or that your missing a button, and you think what is a quick fix. A safety pin! So you grab a safety pin and pin your dress, shirt, whatever it is.  Now if your like me you do it more than once, maybe a bunch of times to try and make the pin inconspicuous.  However, its very rare if ever that the pin actually goes unnoticed.  So, you go about the whole day thinking I hope no one notices this pin.  It’s like the whole day your checking or thinking about this pin! Ugh!!!!!!!!!!! I am so guilty of this! This has happened to me way too many times.  About two weekends ago I found myself at the grove but I was in an outit that I had wore to service - thank goodness it transtioned well.  I really did want to change but I had no time…  before going to the grove one of my friends was like how would the dress look without the pin.  I felt a lil’ bad I kinda was hoping no one had seen it… so not the case, especiall with a person who pays attention to details. So anyway taking it out the dress, the dress would come too low. You should of saw me that day I took the pin out I kept fidgeting with the dress.  Finally I decided to just leave the pin in but was very unhappy wondering if everyone else was like that girl has a pin in her dress.  The reality is maybe no one was looking that close but one person did notice so now I was noticing it too.   So I’ve decided no more pins in my clothes.  But! What can I get for those dresses.  I think having a cool brooch or a decorative pin would be great!  So for me the search is on! Because if I use a decorative pin or a brooch at least it has a look.  Even tho you did have to pin it at least the pin has style. It will have a much better look than a safety pin peeking through my dress- lol!  So thats what I’m on the hunt for :)

borrowed January 28, 2008

Have you ever borrowed something either clothes, jewelry, or shoes?  So you borrow whatever this item is and of course you love it or you wouldn’t of borrowed it.  But then you have to give it back :( and you kinda hope the person will forget that they let you borrow it, but of course they won’t because they love it too.  I am so guilty of this- hee hee.  Mainly with my sisters things, heres the perfect example.  The last time I was in NY.  She had this really cool black and white shirt and she let me borrow it.  Oh man! I love that shirt and I could so picture it in my closet permanently. But she loves it too. So I know there is no way I’m getting that shirt.  Last night didnt make it any better.  I went out with some friends- I had a good time I was the only girl with all guys :) loved it! okay back to the subject anyway my friend was going thru my camera saw me in my sis shirt and is like man that shirt is hot! I’m like I know huh :( its my sisters she let me borrow it.  He’s like no wonder.  But oh if it was mine it would be great.  But it was just borrowed! But what a great borrow it was!!!!

in her closet January 25, 2008

I have this thing about looking in peoples closets.  I think its mainly curiosity.  I don’t do it to everyone tho.  I mean I think its people who I think would dress cute and I want to see what they have.  I even like looking at guys closets too.  I just like to see…  Sometimes I’ve been disappointed because there clothes arent what I thought they should be-lol.  On the other hand, one of my friends who reads this might remember when I came over to her new apt. I think she has a really cool style about her, and I always love looking in her closets at her clothes, bags, shoes just to see what great things she has.  Well this day when I came over I was like can I look in your closet? She’s like yeah- she indulges my lil’ habit. So she had this really cool walk in closet.  But when I went in I saw very few clothes I was like where are all your clothes???  She said you always ask me that- lol.  But I was like where are they?  She’s like these are them- she’s like I do have a few things in the cleaners.  And I’m like I remember you having more things than this???? The thing that I find most unique about her is she’ll one day decide to get rid of her clothes and start over…except for a few of her favorite pieces. Me on the other hand I have a problem letting things go.  Anyway its always fun looking in her closet.

In my new place I have to say it was made for me I have 2 closets yes 2!  I have 2 walk in closets!  I remember when a friend of mine wanted me to move next door to her, the apt was cool.  But the closet was incredibly small. That was not going to work for me. I need space.  So of course when I saw the closets of my new place I was sold I was actually in love.  They were closets made for me.  I have one side for my clothes and the other side for my, shoes, bags, and all of my fashion mags.  I’m still working on getting my closets the way I want but at least  I have something to mold the way I want.  My sister in NY has cool closets too.  I think a closet is important. You need a place to see your clothes.  If you can’t see what you have you can’t decide what to wear.

I am a big fan of Tracee Ellis Ross, I love her style.  Most times I’m watching gilfriends just to see what her character Joan is wearing.  It’s funny cause I thought to myself your in love with a characters style but even in real life Tracee’s aka Joans character style is still hot, and much like her character.  There was one recent episode where they took us inside Joan’s room and you could see, how she had her clothes I was in love I just wanted to see more -it was so cool.  If I could raid anyones closet it would be hers.  Tracee Ellis Ross I loved to shop in her closet.  Whose closet would you shop in?

nothing 2 wear January 24, 2008

Have you ever felt like this? I always feel like this. I mean despite the clothes hanging in my closet I never feel like I have anything to wear.  Whenever I tell anyone I have nothing to wear I’m always told you have plenty of clothes. I say puhleeze!  Whenever I’m going anywhere I always tend to think man I need something new.  Perhaps it’s the fact that I know I’ve worn everything in my closet, and I just want more clothes.  I mean like this morning I’m up and I am dressed for work and I do like what I’m wearing, but I’ve worn it so many times.  True no one at this new job has seen it before, but I have.  I wish I had more options.  It’s raining! I can’t help but htinking it sure would be great to have a bigger coat, or even some more boots, or some sweaters to choose from.  I need more clothes- lol!

Many of you know that I recently moved into my own apartment with my brother and I love it! Now when it came to packing and moving my clothes over to my new place. I made a deal with myself not to bring any clothes over to my new place that I’m not wearing.  It’s funny tho because tho I still have more clothes to move over.  Whenever I’m at my apartment I feel like I have nothing to wear and that all my clothes must be at my parents house.  So I go to my parents house and I’m like theres nothing to wear here all my clothes must be at my apt.  Get the picture I’m going in circles. Still with nothing to wear. See I told you I need more clothes!

Now many of you are familiar with Kimora Lee Simmons.  I think she is in her own words fabulous! I mean have you even see her closets.  I don’t even know how many she has.  But I have seen at least one of them in her show Kimora Lee Simmons Life in the Fab Lane…anyway I remember reading a article about her once and she’s said to be one of the women having the most Louis in the world.  Now I say that just to say wow! We all know that she has tons of clothes more than me for sure. We’ll one of her shows she was going to an event an she was trying to find something to wear and she couldn’t find anything in all her closets to wear.  And I remember her saying I have nothing to wear we need more clothes. Yes Kimora we do! Now, if Kimora Lee Simmons herself can feel like she has nothing to wear and she needs more clothes. Surely I can to!

Gim-me, gim-me more, gim-me more, gim-me gim-me more -lol (shout out to Brittany)

ur best accessory January 23, 2008

So I know that when most people think of an accessory it’s something they add to an outfit i.e bracelets, belt, etc.  However, what is the best accesory on you as a person?  It has been said that there is nothing more attractive than a person who is confident.  So we all have something about us that we love what is that on you?   If you accentuate what you love everyday will be a confident day for you. For me I feel my best accessory is my smile.   Whenever I am loving what I am wearing I can’t help but smile because I know I look good.   Actually more times than not I’m smiling but loving what I have on definetely helps.  For some its there height, or they have great stems (legs), or nice toned arms, or a great waistine,  a killa body etc.  Now though my smile is not the only thing for me, its come to be one thing that throughout all my life that I have been complimented on.  I’ve come to appreciate the value of a great smile, and I actually love smiling it looks way better than frowning.  So, I know what puts a smile on my face. Besides loving the person who I am inside and loving the life that Jehovah has given me. I love getting dressed putting outfits together and seeing what other people are wearing. It makes me smile. Example, haven’t we all had those days where we just know we are looking good I mean no one can tell you nothing( shout out to Kanye)! What was it about that day, that outfit?  It was probably the fact that it really looked good on you.  It complimented everything amazing about you.  If we approach everyday like that imagine how great that would be.  So I’m sure that many of us can pick more than one but just pick one. What is that one thing you feel is your best accessory, and what can you do to accentuate it.  For me it is my smile.  Whats yours?

A must have! January 22, 2008

I started a new job its actually a temp position but its cool because it will give me the chance to make some additional money.  Anyway, the Agency that hired me sent me an email confirming my work assignment and in the email one of the comments was to dress professional.   However, I didn’t need an email reminder to tell me how I wanted to look. I’m always thinking of what kind of impression I want to make.  When I initially interviewed with the Agency I had on a really cool outfit – yellow pleated skirt, with a black pleated shirt and my blue bella jacket (it’s really called that) and some black peep toe pumps by Jessica Simpson- she makes some really cute shoes… I tell you from the elevator out of the parking structure until I returned to the parking structure I was getting compliments on my outfit. Check this out even while they were discussing potential jobs for me one job they had in mind they said that it wouldn’t be good for me because I was too cute for it (yeah my head was a lil big)  but I am way too cute to be working in somebodys warehouse -lol. So for my first day what would I wear?? I thought of wearing a dress but I heard that rain was in the forecast and tho I wanted to be cute I didn’t want to be cute and cold!  So something that has been very constant in my wardrobe is a black wool suit I bought yrs ago, maybe 7 or 8 years.  ( I know sounds like a long time huh) The suit is from JCrew and when I initially bought it I didnt think about how much a 3piece wool suit would cost- jacket, skirt, pants. I just thought this will be a good investment.  And it has been it’s my ever faithful black suit.  So I decided it was perfect for my first day. I wore my black suit pants with a  silk blue shirt that I am really loving at the moment I bought it in NY I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. To top of my outfit I wore some black pumps. Side note: I can’t believe my sister in her list of shoes did not choose a pair of heels! We will talk more about the importance of heels later… to finish my outfit I wore  some blue and gold earrings.  I loved the look.  Now I was a little disappointed when I got to work because I felt that the people weren’t dressed liked I thought they’d be..and I thought I was way to cute to be working here too.  Good thing it’s temporary-lol. I thought for  a second man did I overdress?? Then I said no, I’m doing me :) and this is the way I want to be represented.  So if you don’t have one already you have to get a suit it is an essential to the closet.  It will carry you a long way. For the fellas I know your use to wearing suits but have you ever thought of getting one custom fit for you. Tailoring can go along way! So a must have is a suit! If you don’t want to do a  3 piece right away at least do a 2 piece- you won’t regret it.

What color is your sole? January 17, 2008

So a couple of years ago I remember seeing  Cameron Diaz and she had on these really hot shoes with a red sole. I thought wow that is so cool.  I’m sure that, that is not the first time I saw a picture of someone in shoes with a red sole. This time though it really caught my eye.  I started seeing this red sole shoe pop up on celebrities everywhere.  I new they werent going to be cheap-lol.  Yet, I didnt care I wanted to know who designed them and I wanted a pair and I put them on my “to get list”.  So I finally found out who is the designer behind this red sole shoe his name is Christian Louboutin. He was born in Paris and at the age of 16 he was working to sell some of his first designs.  In 1992 he opened a boutique in one of the most fashionable cities Paris. I urge you to check out his website www.christianlouboutin.com  In addition to reading his Biography you can also look at his shoes which are gorgeous and you can see pictures of his stores. I know that most people can’t afford to pay a minimal of $500 bux for a pair of shoes for some of us that’s rent or half our rent.  But that doesn’t mean you can’t look and besides you never know.  I believe that a great pair of shoes well designed is like walking art.  Actually I take that back I don’t know if its about affording it at all.  I mean when you think about it people spend there money on what they want.  For example, when that new iphone came out how many people stood in line willing to pay what $400 to $500 bux for that phone. For it to only go on sale a couple a couple of months later. Or need I even talk about guys and there Nikes -but that is all for a shoe so thats okay:), or there computer gadgets. Or even those video game lovers we all know the Nintendo Wii is not cheap.  So come on it’s really not about the money it’s just about what we want to spend are money on. I guess for me I rather spend my money on clothes, bags, and shoes.

Before my sister moved to NY she lived in LA and she used to work at Urban Outfitters.  If you haven’t been shame on you, but it’s not to late. You can even check out the website www.urbanoutfitters.com  so the best thing about my sister working there was that you can get discount cards for you friends and family. The discount was great and you could even use the discount at Anthropologie another great store. www.anthropologie.com  So of course my sister got me a card and I used that card faithfully.  Anyway I bought one of my favorite pair of shoes to this day from Urban they are some black pumps with about a 3inch heel, with purple and grey paint splashed over them- very funky.  I had to give you that background to get to where we are going next!   So my sister has been in NY for about 3 yrs. and I bought those shoes before she left so maybe I’ve had them for about 4 or 5 years.

One day last year I’m in my room and I’m thinking man I feel like I have some shoes with a red sole.  So immediately I hop of my bed and I began looking through my shoes.  And guess what!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite urban outfitters paint shoes soles are red!! Yes they were by Christian Louboutin himself.  You don’t know how happy this made me I almost cried I was telling my sister and she was like no way that is so cool.  But I mean come on how great is that!! Now yeah, I did love those shoes before but after that I really loved those shoes.  I mean even though I bought them from urban and not the actual Louboutin store. I’m happy because  this designer who I had been looking for, for the past year or so had already been on my feet for the past 5 years how hot is that!  So, I’m sure that all of you know how hot 2nd hand stores are, but you really never know what treasure you may find even in your own closet. Even Oprah is catching on you can read a lil’ more about his inspiration for the red sole by clicking this link http://www.oprah.com/tows/slide/200801/20080115/slide_20080115_350_104.jhtml?promocode=022

So true if you are going to buy a red sole shoe you can get them at Saks, Neiman Marcus, Barneys, or Bergdorf -Goodman.  Or you may even stumble upon a pair in Urban Outfitters like me.  I still have them on my to “to get list” it just will be my 2nd pair.

If u… January 16, 2008

I think that I have some of the coolest conversations with my friends about clothing.  Last year around the beginning of March when the new season of Top Model was starting- a show I love and watch faithfully.  I remember thinking how do these girls pack for there trip.  Like I am the worst packer for me I love to have options and I will pack everything I love just in case the occassion arises.  Often times I never even wear half the items I pack.  So I remember asking a friend of mine if you were going into a place and only could take 10 items of clothing and 3 pairs of shoes and 3 pieces of jewelry and 1 bag what would you take. This was my friends list : 1)a pair of jeans 2) a white t or tank 3)a black dress 4)a pull over sweater( in a bright color like red, yellow or green, 5)a straight skirt 6) sum loose gaucho type pants 7)a jean jacket 8)a funky fitted leather jacket(in a cool black, brown or red) 9) a pea coat or trench coat 10) a button down with a collar blouse, shoes: 1) ballet slippers (red) 2) black pumps 3) all white low top converse all stars,  jewelry: 1) gold hoops, 2) a fat gold bangle 3) some type of long necklace, bag: louis vuitton doctors bag.

Though I did the same list for some reason I fell in love with my friends list it seemed so perfect and workable.  This top 10 list has been something my sister and I’ve have never forgot.  I mean if you think about it normally you always tend to wear your favorite clothes.  You wear what you feel comfortable in what truly looks good on you.  And as many things as you pack for a trip you always end up wearing those same things and you think why did I even bring this other stuff. My friend loved my question and wondered why did I ask it, and in explaining it to her I told her that I chose 10 items because I figured that with 10 clothing items if you have the right pieces you can work them many different ways. I figured 3 pair of shoes was a nice in between and 1 bag because if its a great bag you can really rock it with anything and then with jewelry you can really get by with a few key pieces.

So this blog today goes out to my sister in Brazil who is wishing she packed more clothes :) You really don’t need a lot. The most important thing is those key pieces. If you packed a whole suitcase of clothes more than likely you would only be wearing your favorite clothes and just lugging the others around for what if the occassion occurs.  Sometimes my sisters would laugh at me because I’d be at home trying on outfits and I’d always say that man this would look so good with “my hair out”  like I love  “my hair out” as opposed to a ponytail and I automtically love whatever I’m wearing with “my hair out”.  I mean hair is a really big deal to the total apperance of a look. Even for guys I mean a guy who has his hair edged up automatically looks 10x better.

I gave my self a rule to never wear anything that I didn’t love even if it means wearing the same things over and over again. The reason I did this was because there were to many times I found myself wearing something that I really didn’t like and I would go the day thinking why did I wear this (thats another blog another day) so I said no more of that no more- so now I make sure whatever I’m wearing I’m loving.

So if you were going into a place and could only take 10 items of clothes, 3 shoes, 3 pieces of jewelry, one bag.  What would you take?  I think it’s a quite fun challenge to do.
