For a while now I have felt like my wardrobe needs a major upgrade.   I know that I have great pieces but overall my wardrobe is not where I want it to be.  So, what I have committed to is buying at least one thing every pay check.  So this weekend I had in my mind to actually buy more things, because I had some returns I needed to make.  However, I did liitle shopping this weekend.  But I did make it to one of my favorite stores and I did buy one shirt its really cute.  It’s a blue and white long sleeve stirpe shirt.  The stripes are blue, and the sleeves your able to roll up and button.  Now, the shirt isn’t extra fancy but it is a cool shirt to have, and thats what I need.  When I was shopping I tried the shirt  with my jeans and tucked it in.  It looked really cool I was very happy.  Sometimes when I am shopping I may see a cool shirt or pants and I think hmmm I cant’t wear that everywhere and I won’t buy it. Only later to think that would of still been a nice addition to my wardobe.  So that is how I have to help my self think in order to build up my wardrobe.  Because some clothes are good for my meetings, work, and then going out.  Then some clothes are completley universal.  However, I’ve noticed that when your shopping you have to think one what could this go with in my closet and what could it potentially go with.  Cause it doesn’t take much to buy a pair of pants or a shirt.  What I’ve realized for myself is that its much harder for me to find shirts that I like so I tend to buy dresses because there already a complete outfit.  However, that poses a dilemma when I want to wear jeans or a skirt because I have nothing to wear with it.  So right now I am very happy because even though I didn’t shop as much as I thought I would I am + 1 cool shirt, and that is the beginning.

more than a Louis March 25, 2008

So yesterday my sister and I were IM-ing.  One of the constant subject of our conversations is about clothes of course.  She was crazy excited over the new People magazine.  I use to catch up daily on my people pics when I worked at my Dads, however now that I am in a new work place I have no time to surf like I used to.  Well one of the things my sister raved about was this clutch bag by Marc Jacobs.  She said she liked it so much that she wanted it more than a Louis. Now of course I was like what!!!!!! I new instantly I had to see this clutch because getting a Louis has been on my sisters list for a while so what could have taken its place.  On my way home I stopped by the Pharmacy and picked up the new People mag.  After walking home I sat on my couch and began to flip through the mgazine. As I was going through it page by page I came across the page of bags. Instantly one popped out at me and I thought man that bag is HOT!  Of course it would be the Marc Jacobs clutch the color in itself is striking.  It’s like a turquoise with one strip of orange and a gold snap closure.  I immediately text my sister to let her know I loved it!  I could so see why she would want it more than a Louis. Though I love my Louis bags I have to admit, its not the only great bag out there. When I got my first Speedy it seemed as if every other bag in my closet didn’t exist.  If I was taking a bag you best believe it was my Louis.  I was in love with it!  Then one day I remember thinking wait a minute you have other great bags that deserve your attention as well so I sat aside the Louis temporarily :) and began to show my other bags some love.  A clutch is a great look it makes such a different statement.  For one you can’t stuff  a clutch like you can a regular bag, it’ll make it look bulky you have to limit everything you put in it to necessity.  The clutch more than likely will be carried in your hand or under your arm so it’s definetely going to be showed off.  Right now clutches are really in the bigger the better they say.  However, just because it is big does not mean you can pack it to the max.  Remember the clutch is about the look so less in it looks way better.  The other thing I love about clutches is you can use them as splashes of color and it looks great when your going out.  The clutch has been named the new it accessory, so I know we will be seeing them more and more in a lot of different styles.  So grab a clutch and have some fun!

different look March 18, 2008

Have you ever changed your hair!? It can give you such a different look it changes everything you wear.  I always wanted to see myself with cornrolls but done with my own hair and only about 5 or 6.  We’ll finally I have seen it! My sister braided me some cornrolls Friday which was so unexpected.  It took me a lilttle getting use to seeing all my hair back and braided.  However I have to admit I love it!  It also makes me feel like this is how I would look if I was to cut my hair short.  The one thing I realized about a hair style that shape ours face is one you have to love your face!  Because its definetely going to be exposed.  As well as your eyebrows definetely have to be done.  Because you are definetely going to attract attention to your face.  And I know even for me that I love my look when my eye brows are all cleaned up. Im addicted to that clean look!  So with  my cornrolls the other must thing for me are some gold hoops that I got in TJ.  They are really cool about medium size but they just look really good with my hair and go with my face.  The other thing tht really makes this look pop is my Oliver Peoples glasses they are big but something about there pinkish brown color just really pops more than my black babyphat glasses.  I’ve also noticed that everything I wear looks different.  It seems a lil’ harder to think of what to wear but as Tim Gunn says I’m making it work,  I’m rocking my different look at least until Thursday or Friday!

Movement March 14, 2008

So my sisters comment to my last blog kinda got me thinking of what do I want to buy next.  I mean there are so many things-lol! However the one thing I have gotten on myself about lately is this.  Sometimes I may know of events in advance that I know I want something new for. Yet, instead of shopping for those events early I spend my money on other things. Like shirts or just little things that can’t be worn to my events.  So when the event comes I have no money for anything new, and of course I always feel like I have nothing to wear.  So as of today I already know that there are events coming up that I want something new for i.e. the Memorial, the 3 day Convention which is in May.  I think even are one day might be in May.   Now, I don’t know if I am going to be getting 5 new outfits. However, I definetly want something new for the Memorial and the Convention.  Being that the Memorial is about a week away that is oging to be my first priority.  I would prefer not to repeat what I wear to the Memorial to the Convention.  But that will all depend on what I wear to the Memorial and how much exposure the outfit gets.  So thats where I will be putting my money next.  My sister suggested a movement where we put I believe 6% of our paycheck aside for our  savings. So were not living pay check to paycheck.  We’ll I have to be honest I think the same thing is needed for shopping because, that way there is never any guilt about splurging on big things like a Louis, or some designer glasses or shoes. Because since you’ve taken that money over time and sat it aside it can be used for whatever you want :) Thats what I have found myself doing and I never feel guilty about any of my splurges :) So how much should we sat aside should we do 6% as well.  What do you think people? I’m getting excited as I think about this because I get paid once a week that means I will be putting money in my shopping fund at least once a week or.  I’m so excited!

So to begin I would like to aplogize to anyone who has been checking my blog these past couple of weeks and all they have seen is the last blog on the great debate.  There is no excuse for that, and I promise it will never happen again.  So in case your wondering what happen on that great debate those boots went back.  If I had not made up mind completely, any doubt was confirmed when my sister was down about a week ago from NY,  it was her and my other friend who I love talking about fashion with. Of ocurse I wanted them to see my boots. So I broke out the boots to show them.  It seems like neither of them were impressed.  In addition the zipper would not zip up, and then my friend commented on how the top of the boot didn’t fit my leg-lol! Did I leave that out before, perhaps I thought I could get by.  We’ll sometimes there are some things you just can’t get by on.  Besides if you are going to pay $215 bux for some boots they better be on point in every way. So back they went and now I just can’t wait to get the refund so I can buy something else.  Besides it is like money aleady spent :)

The Great Debate February 22, 2008

So your shopping, you see something that you like, but it’s not one of those things you know you want to get right away.  So you think about it, maybe you even leave, and come back.  Maybe your hesitant to buy it for many reasons.  Maybe it’s not something you can wear right now.  Or maybe you think I’ll buy this now and when I shed those last few pounds I know it’ll look great.  Whatever your thought process is, you buy it.  You get it home. Let’s say you have it for about a week, haven’t worn it.  Then you say to yourself I’m going to take it back. What goes through your mind, when you decide to return something you buy?  What happened during the course of that time to make you change your mind? How often do you find yourself buying things and returning them?  I really hate the return process.  Sometimes I just don’t feel like being bothered with it.  I know it doesn’t take much, but I guess you can call me lazy that way.  I can think of right now, a hand full of things that I have bought that I should of returned but didn’t.  Do I wear these things?? No! With some of the things it’s definetley too late to return, the others I still have time. Recently I’ve been thinking of returning those boots I got.  I know! Yes! I am talking about those boots! I know after all that want over those boots!  Okay heres the deal – I thought I loved them. Maybe it was just infatuation. Maybe it was the fact that I couldn’t have them, that made me want them, because initially I did decide to wait on them.  Whatever it is, there is something about them, that I am not sold on, now that I have them here.  The beauty of online shopping.  You never truly know what you are going to get until it comes.  When my boots came the first thing I noticed was that the color was different than it was pictured online.  The brown was a lil’ lighter but it was not bad  I thought I could still work with it.  Then the other thing is the other day I was trying on the boots over my skinny jeans.  It was okay, it didn’t flow the way I thought it would. The other thing is the boots have zippers that zip them closed on the outside. You know how zippers sometimes do that thing where they go up but don’t zip, and you have to get it to go back down.  Well the zipper was doing that, and I was a lil’ ticked off about that.  I thought is this making me aware of a future problem.  Or am I just looking for a good reason to return them. Tho, I do think that is a good reason to return them, but if I wasn’t questioning them I probably would be like we’ll at least I can get them to zip-lol. Now this could just be a moment.  I could possibly change my mind about them later on. That’s another thing I do.  Sometimes I’ll get something in my closet and it’ll be months before I actually rock it.  I don’t do it on purpose it just seems like it works out that way.  Normally the return policy is 30 days, so I have until the 6th of March to return these babies and get a full refund.  That’s not that much time so I have to really think about if I want them or not. They cost too much money to just sit in the closet and not wear, and I know if I return them there is no getting them back…

toot! toot! February 21, 2008

Okay so today I’m feeling good about a couple of things.  So I’ll begin with something that made me happy yesterday and I new I wanted to include it in my blog for today.  Yesterday I was watching Oprah and her show was about makeovers.  For this show she was going to be granting makeovers to women who labeled themselves as frumpy, and they basically had fallen into a rut.  These women were all friends and neighbors to each other. On a daily they found themselves in the house or running errands in sweats, pajamas, or pants that had to have an elastic waist- because it was comfortable and always fit.  One woman found herself in a long run of wearing overalls all the time, and one woman had the same ugly pair of jeans in a bunch of colors. Instead of giving theses women some glamorous unaffordable makeovers, they decided to take them to shops that they would normally go to like JC Penny, Gap, Old Navy….so it was real cool and affordable, and they could keep it up after the show. All of the women looked great! One of my favorite things about make over shows are seeing the before and afters and then I always find some tips that I can use myself.  So some of the women who had been made over were rocking scarves.  They looked really good, and they were wearing a bunch of different colors scarves.  It was said scarves can be use to boost up any outfit.  Which I thought was cool because right now I am really loving scarves.  Anyway, Oprah was loving the way they were tied, and she said to the guy that, he had to show them how to tie the scarves because thats what really made them cute. So I was very happy when the same way he showed them how to tie the scarves, was the same way I mentioned on a blog I wrote earlier this month about achieving “the look”. I was really happy to see that I had already shared that tip that I had previously learned to my blog readers.

Then today I had a job interview, I was told to dress cute and just be the cute person that I am.  My skirt I wanted to wear was not ready from  the cleaners so this morning I was torn about what to wear.  Initially this morning I decided to wear a brown dress. For some reason I was not liking the dress with the shoes I wanted to wear with it.  And I wasn’t feeling it for the interview.  So I decided to go with another dress I had it’s a black & white polka dot dress, with a few ruffles down the front to about the waist. I bought this dress in  Paris, and I’m always glad when I wear it that I decided to get it.  I paired it with some black cut out heels, and some funky earrings.  I was loving it!  It was funny because I have to say that I think I nailed the interview!  Which I’m really happy about.  When I called my Agency to let her no how it went she was like I can tell in your voice you were looking cute.  I thought to myself yeah I was.  So within the past day or so I was just really happy with myself and my blog and my personal style and I just felt like tooting my own horn for a moment- toot! toot!  (shout out to KLS)

P.S. I got the job I start Monday!

don’t call it a come back February 20, 2008

You don’t have to be a fashion guru to see that with fashion things come and go and come back.  I like to say that fashion recycles itself. If you notice things that were in, in the 60’s are coming back and for us the generation that wasn’t raised in the 60’s were like wow thats hot! However, as hot as it might be it’s not new.  It’s just reinvented.  I can think of many things that have been reinvented.  Big glasses, Glasses with the side openings, bell bottoms, highwaisted jeans the list goes on.  Now I have to admit that back in the late 80’s or early 90’s I remember Lee Jeans, and Jordache Jeans that were fitted through the waist and tight at the bottom some had zippers that zipped from the bottom to a lil’ above the ankle. You remember that?  If you were like me you remember that and you had a pair.  Now I have to say I loved my jeans!  Now if you were to ask me to put them on now I’d laugh but you know what!? That jean has been reinvented into what we call the “skinny jean”  fitted through the waist tight at the bottom.  If you’ve noticed there are many variations to the skinny jean. Now a person born in 85 or 90 or even 95 maynot remember those Lee Jeans like a person who was born in 78.  I’ve heard only so many times from my mother that she remembers when she use to wear this or that…I’ve even heard it from my grandmothers.  Oh how I wish they had closets I could go through…  So when the “skinny jean” as we know it was being named the “it jean” I was like man been there done that.  I didn’t know if I wanted to add another pair into my wardrobe. Then I thought fashion is always reinventing itself the skinny jean of today is different than the skinny jean of the 60’s 70’s 80’s and even the 90’s we have a new set of fashion minds.  So why not get a pair!? I remember at first I was had on how the skinny jean would look on me. Yet, after being told to just try on a pair.  The skinny jean had won me over once again. So months ago I bought me a pair of skinny jeans and I wear them all the time.  I love them especially with a heel!!! I’ve been telling my sister that she should get a pair but she’s had a list of reasons why she should not. However, I told her she could sooooooooo rock some skinny jeans. So this past week she finally listened and bought her some skinny jeans and she wore them over the weekend and received many compliments on herself in those skinny jeans.  She saw herself in a full length mirror and was loving what she saw.  Now, I did ask her what shoes did she wear and and she mentioned some wedge heels.  I thought not bad :) one day my big sis will listen to me and rock them with heels (3inch minimum) So, we won’t call it a come back but I’m definetely loving the skinny jean and I have to say that guys are loving them too because I’ve seen them wearing them quite well if I do say so myself.  However, for some guys I do say proceed with caution. You definetely have to find the right skinny for you.

feelin’ blue February 18, 2008

It seems like I was out all weekend.  Which was cool, because I had a number of opportunities to rock cool outfits.  I love weekends like that.  One of the events I was anticipating most was a wedding of a long time friend.  About two weeks ago, I found the dresss I wanted to wear to the wedding.  However, do to some other recent purchases I was unable to get the dress I wanted for the wedding. Which I was really disappointed about, because I kept imagining that dress as the perfect wedding dress.  Since I did that I new nothing in my closet no matter how cute it was would make me as happy as that dress would.   I have to really work on budgeting my spending money.  Sometimes I’ll have events coming up, and I’ll spend my money on other things that can’t be worn to the event, then when the event comes I have no extra money to spend.   So I new there was no way I was getting this dress.  So this meant I was going to have to work within my closet.  Which isn’t so much a bad thing- it’s just that lately I have not been feeling anything in my closet.  I’m feeling like a change…So anyway, one of my favorite “event dress” has been this vintage navy blue dress.  It comes just a lil’ above the knee, and it has a v-neck dip in the front, and the sleeves come about mid upper arm and ties on both sides. Now this dress is great and it looks really good on!  However, it seems like it has turned into my wedding dress.  When I was in NY some months ago I wore it to a wedding there as well.  Though these weddings have been months apart I just can’t help but feeling that all the pics of me at weddings are going to be in that dress.  So Saturday when I arrived home I new that I was going to wear the blue dress.  So I told myself don’t even waist time trying on any other outfits, just get ready and go. So imagine what I did when I got home!? Thats right I pulled out a bunch of dresses and tried each of them on.  Now I new none of these dresses were the looks that I was going for, so needless to say I wans’t happy with any of them. I must of spent 45 minutes or so trying on different dresses with different shoes and bags.  In the end I decided on wearing what I initially new I would wear the blue dress.  Why did I do that!?  Why do we do that!?  Why do we put ourselves through all that trouble of trying to find something better.  When we have it already in our hands.  I was so mad at myself for doing that because I waisted so much time. I had to drive all they way out to Pasadena.  I almost missed my friends wedding over figuring out what to wear.  I couldn’t believe that!  I would love to say this will never happen again. But I know me and I know that would not be true.  So what I can say I will do, is work towards budgeting my money better especially when I have an event coming that I know I am going to want something new for.

That Fit! February 15, 2008

Today this blog is inspired by my sister.  Today she is rocking this really cool white shirt she bought from one of our favorite stores Urban.  And she is loving the way it fits.  She said something in her email of glee that rings so true.  That is when you are fit you love the way everything looks.  That is so true!  I mean when you are in shape and you put on that fitted shirt you have no extra bulges on the side.  It sits just like its suppose to fit. Your booty in those jeans sits up instead of low.   I think that is why at least for me anyway  when I see pics in magazines or runway shows or actresses on tv- I always love the way there clothes fit( besides there occassional airbrush).  One of the reasaons they look great is because they are in great shape so the clothes fit there body and they also get things tailored to fit them.  Which is something that I believe we all probably don’t spend enough time and money doing.  But I know myself, when I am in the gym like I am suppose to, and I put on those jeans or that dress I’m feeling great!  I wear the clothes totally different.  Which is something  I really believe, WE should wear the clothes NOT the clothes wear us. We even have a friend and my sis knows who I’m talking about she is in amazing shape and no matter what she puts on we love it! I think its because she is so lean that everything just fits her- and she looks great!  That fit doesn’t come easy its definetely something that we have to put work into.  My sister definetly puts in the work and it shows all through her clothes.  So rather we are guy or girl we can all work towards that fit. Even if we aren’t in the gym regular we can still make sure the clothes we are wearing compliment our bodies.  So this morning I say to my Sis in the NY rock on! Continuing rocking that fit!
